 Independent living is a senior housing option designed exclusively for individuals aged 55 and older. It offers a maintenance-free lifestyle that combines the comfort of community living with the independence of a private apartment.  The facilities have on-site dining areas with meal purchase plans available as well as options to purchase medication and activities of daily living assistance.  This option allows seniors to enjoy a vibrant, community-focused environment without the responsibilities of home upkeep.   In addition, facilities have on-site dining areas with meal purchase plans available.

 Assisted living in Arizona is licensed by the Department of Health Services (DHS) and are required to follow specific regulations.  They are required to have a licensed manager, and care is provided by certified caregivers who may direct assistant caregivers.  They also must provide three meals a day and snacks.  Assisted living centers (11 or more residents) must have 24-hour awake staff and homes (10 or less residents) are allowed to have overnight staff sleep but must disclose this is their residency agreement.  

Certified caregivers offer assistance with activities of daily living such as medication management, incontinence, bathing, dressing and personal care.

DHS defines three levels of services:

Supervisory (no hands-on care)

Personal (hands-on assistance)

Directed (Memory Care)

Memory care
